A Family Tradition, Built One Relationship at a Time
About Michael's Jewelers
Every family business has a beginning. Ours starts with courage, craftsmanship, and a watchmaker’s steady hands.
In 1918, Daniel Kanoff emigrated from Russia to the United States in pursuit of the American dream. A skilled watchmaker and silversmith, Daniel began his career working for a watch repair house in Philadelphia. Just ten years later, he opened his own business, Philadelphia Case & Repair, where he repaired watches and manufactured watch cases.
It was the beginning of a family legacy rooted in precision, pride, and care.
A Legacy of Craftsmanship
In 1943, Daniel’s son Irving followed in his father’s footsteps and learned the watch repair trade. For more than 50 years, Irving carried that tradition forward, building a reputation for skilled workmanship and dependable service.
By 1964, the next generation was already finding its way into the jewelry world.
Irving’s son Lenny began running errands to the Philadelphia jewelry district, learning the rhythm of the business from the ground up. While in high school, he worked as an apprentice jeweler setting stones at Sydney Cooper Jewelers, gaining hands-on experience that would shape the rest of his career.
After graduating from high school, Lenny served in the Navy. When he returned home four years later, he took a position with Morton’s Jewelers, where he quickly learned the retail side of the jewelry business. Before long, he was ready to build something of his own.
Michael’s Jewelers Opens in Bucks County
In 1976, Lenny and Karen Kanoff opened Michael’s Jewelers in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania.
What began as a dream quickly became a trusted local jewelry store serving generations of Bucks County families. Eight years later, the family opened a second Michael’s Jewelers location in Richboro, continuing their commitment to fine jewelry, expert service, and personal relationships.
For Michael’s Jewelers, the work has always been about more than selling jewelry.
It has been about helping people celebrate engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, milestones, new beginnings, and the everyday moments that deserve to feel special.
The Next Generation - Into the New Millennium
In 1992, Lenny’s son Michael entered the family business in much the same way his father had decades earlier.
As the Michael’s Jewelers delivery boy, Michael drove from Bucks County to the Philadelphia jewelry district, running errands for the stores and learning the business one trip at a time. After graduating from Pennsbury High School, he decided to work full time at Michael’s Jewelers.
Knowing he wanted to deepen his knowledge, Michael attended the Gemological Institute of America. After graduating from GIA, he gained additional experience working for a local jewelry store in Santa Monica, California.
In 1996, Michael returned to Pennsylvania and joined Michael’s Jewelers in Richboro. One year later, the Richboro store moved to its current location in Yardley, where the family’s tradition of service continued to grow.
